Visit of Horst Oberlack to UVic, 24-25 September 2001 Horst is the ATLAS Liquid Argon Calorimeter Project Leader The agenda of the meeting is appended below. Michel Lefebvre NOTES ***** The following is a summary of the important points that we discussed: - Cryostat and Cryogenics ASSO The ASSO is currently scheduled for early February 2002, around the 4th. Horst mentioned the possibility of having a combined 2-day ASSO with C+C, EMB and EMEC. Michel should contact Pierre Pailler with regards to what is required from the EC feedthrough team for the ASSO. Michel to look at the ATLAS TC web page. The feedthrough QA/QC document is to be updated in view of the ASSO, making sure the interface drawing and the description of the reception tests are included. A document summarizing the endcap feedthrough project and referring to other notes should be produced before the ASSO. - Feedthrough Matters The procurement of pin carriers is currently the limiting factor in the feedthrough production. The procurement schedule should be reviewed at the Cryostat and Cryogenics Steering Committee meeting. In particular, it is felt very important to secure Tom Muller's care in the procurement of the pin carriers AFTER the reception of BNL's contingent of pin carriers. - ATHENA HEC/EMEC beam test software Currently, the EMEC/HEC technical run is expected to take place in March or April 2002. Horst reports that Sepp and Sacha are attempting the use of DAQ-1. We should be prepared to accept the current EPIO format with the EMEC block. Progress towards the DAQ-1 format should be followed closely. In particular, if it is to be used, it is important to have a knowledge of the data format well before the technical run. Ideas regarding monitoring were discussed. The current plan is to provide a PAW user interface very similar to the one in use during HEC beam tests, and to provide the necessary basic histograms needed for cell diagnostics and approximate beam location. We are investigating where ATHENA should be run for monitoring, that is either on a dedicated (and properly maintained) linux box in the control room, or (default option) on the atlinux machines via a window from the DAQ station. EMEC colleagues will be consulted regarding adequate monitoring for the EMEC quantities. Horst to clarify with Sepp the question of how many time slices can/will be read for the combined beam tests. It was noted that this could affect the way pedestals are computed. - ATHENA HEC/EMEC Tutorial A tutorial will take place Friday October 12 (last day of LAr week). Michel to contact a few key people to encourage them to register. Michel to issue a reminder to the larg email list around October 1st, with some more info. - Contact with EMEC Team Michel to initiate contact with the EMEC team with a view to meet and discuss important EMEC specific topics: - data format - cell# to geometry mapping - reconstruction issues (HV corrections, phi corrections, ...) - monitoring Michel to contact Laurent first. Needless to say that our EMEC colleagues should be encouraged to take over some software tasks for the combined beam tests. It is felt that the ATHENA framework could possible make the job division easier. - Future Participation Issues Horst encourages us strongly to take a piece of the action in the performance studies. We should carefully think about this. Also, Horst would appreciate our thoughts regarding the commissioning phase of the LAr system (which includes the pilot run). What should we do to ensure that the detector is ready for actual physics data taking?
