LAUENENSEE

Trail signs [283 Kb]

Lauenen is a small town at the head of the Lauenen Valley, about five kilometres south of the resort town Gstaad. An eight kilometre trail leads from Lauenen up to Lauenensee, then returns on the opposite side of the valley to complete the loop. The trail mostly follows small service roads and is kept open in winter, which is the season when I walked it. I had the usual rösti lunch at the Hotel Alpenland, conveniently located at the start of the trail, before setting out on the walk. An interesting summer extension to this walk would be to continue up to Geltenhütte, about three kilometres beyond Lauenensee. The drive to and from Lauenen was also fun, along narrow and winding roads via Les Diablerets and Col du Pillon on the way to Lauenen, and via Chateau-d'Oex and Col des Mosses on the way back.
