From mgf@UVic.CA Tue Feb 22 04:20:24 2000 Date: Mon, 21 Feb 2000 13:58:44 -0800 (PST) From: M. Fincke-Keeler To: UVic feedthrough team -- Aaron Dowling , Greg Vowles , Jan van Uytven , Margret Fincke , John Lindner , Mark Lenckowski , Michael J. Rensing , Michel Lefebvre , Paul Birney , Paul Poffenberger , Roy Langstaff , Terry Hodges , rkeeler@UVic.CA Subject: Minutes of UVic feedthrough meeting Feb 21, 2000 Dear colleagues, Please find below the minutes of the UVIC feedthrough meeting on Feb.21, 2000. Best regards, Margret. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Margret Fincke-Keeler, Physics Dept., University of Victoria ---------------------------------------------------------------- ================================================================= Feedthrough -1: --------------- The feedthrough -1 passed its mechanical cold test. During the first part of the test, the feedthrough was cooled down under vacuum (10**-8) and leak tested. Within the sensitivity of the leak tester (about 10**-9 mbl/s) no leaks were detected. No significant condensation was observed, and in particular there was no condensation on the warm flange during the test. After the completetion of this first leak test, the volume of the bellows was filled with Nitrogen at pressures of 10mb, 100mb , 300mb and 500mb. The results of the LN2 boil-off rate vs. Nitrogen pressure as well as the power used to operate the warm flange heaters vs. Nitrongen pressure were communicated to Terry, who will evaluate them. At the end of the pressure test the feedthrough was warmed up again. Cold electrical tests will be performed on the feedthrough when Paul Poffenberger is back from Geneva. Steel: ------ Mark showed us the piece of steel with the tiny imperfection he found. Mark will be visiting EBCO tomorrow. Electronic testing: ------------------- John Lindner reported that the Cross-talk VI is being worked on and almost finished. The low resistance gates for PHREDA arrived and are being tested. The LabVIew VI's on Hepserv are being organized. The Camac crate readout is almost operational. Odds and ends: -------------- The Rohacell and Mylar for all feedthroughs has been cut. Still no word on the Orsay pigtail shipment. Nathalie Seguin from Orsay kindly agreed to provide us with more shaper/amplifiers, so we will have spares. John and Jan went to a Labview seminar last week. There will be an NSERC site visit to UVIc in October 2000. Things to do: ------------- - An estimate for the pumping rate for a feedthrough in the cold test station should be calculated. - Before doing a cold-box pressure test, the stored energy of a pressurized cold box should be calculated. - For Production cold-testing we need to look into purchasing larger quatities of LN2. Paul Birney will talk to the chemistry deptartment and find out who their supplier is, and how much they pay for it. - The pigtail stretch test remains to be done - The temperature vs. current test under of a pin in a pin carrier remains to be done. On the agenda for next week: ---------------------------- Report from Mark about his visit to EBCO. Report from Pof, Terry, Roy about their visit to the Largh week.
