Minutes of feedthrough meeting of 8 May, 2000. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Present: GV, AD, Pof, MGF, PB, RM *) Milestones: - 60 ColdFlanges and the 8 remaining WarmFlanges have been received from Ebco. The unused blank material was not included in the shipment. PB will check with Ebco about the remaining blanks. - 100 Vacuum Cables arrived on 4 May. All have been visually inspected. Aside from one cable that appears to have some missing gold plating on the springclip (this needs to be investigated more carefully under a microscope) all the cables have passed. Contrary to the information we were given by FCI, there is no mark on the connector to designate the pin one position. We will provide our own mark. Electrical tests are underway, and anticipated to be completed by next week. - Replacement Pigtail labels have been ordered by ORSAY from Axon to relabel the pigtails. *) Margret reported that the gland delivery from CERN has been delayed until the end of May. CERN has now recieved the glands, but must perform further machining before shipping to UVIC. *) Some concern was expressed during LARG week about the pigtails picking up dust if left uncovered during the assembly steps. We will make some sort of protective cover for the pigtails once they have been plugged into the coldflange. *) Pierre Pailler expressed some concern during LARG week about the heater resistors failing if they get wet due to condensation. PB will build a device to wet/dry cycle some resistors while powered. Some of the resistors will also be subject to freeze cycles while still wet. *) Still no word from Glasseal regarding a revised schedule. George Stenning has left many phone messages with Glasseal, but has received no reply. George will contact Roy or me (since Terry away for two weeks) once anything new is learned. *) PB performed thermal conduction tests with the proposed thermal contact material, thermal grease, and just air. His results are presented here: Thermal coupling of Resistors Four 50 watt resistors were mounted on a water cooled aluminum plate and heated with 18 watts each. The resistors were coupled to the plate by:- 1) air, 2) white grease, 3) CT-100 rubber pad 0.8mm thick, 4) C695 graphite pad 0.15mm thick. Three tests were done: 1st) The resistors were screwed tightly to the aluminum plate. 2nd) 0.1mm paper washers were placed at the two screws between the resistors and the aluminum plate. 3rd) 0.5mm SS washers were placed at the screws between the resistors and the aluminum plate. The temperatures of the resistors were recorded. Details to follow next week. Agenda for next week: ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ - Milestones - Preliminary vacuum cable test results - Inventory of parts required to commence building - Work plans for the immediate future - AOB
