Minutes of feedthrough meeting of 12 June, 2000. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Present: GV, Pof, PB, MLenc, AD, TH, RL, RKK, MGF, RM *) Milestones: - remaining cuff and seal rings crated and ready to ship to BOA - Glasseal announced a revised shipping schedule - eight pincarriers of each type to be shipped to UVIC every other week beginning 10 July. Subsequent news from BNL, however, has revealed problems with the 16 pincarriers recently delivered to BNL; 14 of the 16 developed leaks after cold cycling. A crew from Glasseal visited BNL to investigate the problem, and were confident that they understood the cause of and cure for the defect. It remains uncertain what impact this will have on the shipping schedule. - The replacement transducer for the ultrasonic bath is finally in place. On Thursday, PB and GV or AD will clean at least two each of the warm flanges, cold flanges, funnels, and bellows. *) Samples of the thermal pads (both types) should be sent to Chris Oram for radiation testing. PB can deliver these to Chris while in Vancouver for the ultrasonic cleaning. *) Sicom responded to the RFQ for the supplemental cuff-ring order at $535 per piece. Southern Cross has not yet responded. We should also look into the possibility of having Dave Smith make the cuff rings (minimum three, no more than five). *) Mark will put out an RFQ for the bellows braces. *) The orders for the RF seals and the SealRing/Cryostat o-ring seals should be placed (PB). *) Terry will notify Pierre Pailler and Allain Gonidec that he will be presenting the UVIC ambient flange heater design and test results during the July LARG week, and that all interested parties should attend. We would like to have final approval of the heater during LARG week or soon after, as it is holding up the hole drilling of most of our warm flanges. *) Roy reminded Albin that we require the repaired T-piece glands ASAP. Albin responded that the shop had yet to repair any glands, but expected that the shop will try to polish the first piece on Wednesday. If the repair fails, then Albin will send us the four least damaged T-pieces along with their measured leak rates. *) It was decided that after the final welding and testing of the feedthroughs, we will stage several (up to six) feedthroughs for the dye-penetrant tests to be performed. This implies that the feedthroughs will not be crated, but will be held on cradles and covered to keep them dust free. The cradles and covers will have to be made. *) In addition to the large poly bag which will envelope the entire feedthrough in the crate, a smaller poly bag should also be used to protect the pigtails before insertion into the large bag. Furthermore, each micro-D connector will be protected with a 0.004" 3X5" poly bag. *) Mark will look into obtaining a large shipping container to hold each batch of feedthrough crates. *) Pof contacted Bob Evans of FCI regarding the delivery schedule. FCI has had delivery problems with the BeCu, with a 26 week lead time, but did receive several thousand pieces last week. We will recieve another shipment (several hundred?) before the end of the month. I will request clarification on how the `26 week lead time' will impact future deliveries. Bob also acknowledged that some of the springclips "may be slipping over the front of the Minirod housing". *) Mark has provided the following summaries of the proposed BNL and UVIC heater-plate temperature sensors: BNL summary ^^^^^^^^^^^ - Two RTD temperature sensors per feedthrough (BNL delivery is within days). - BNLs RTDs are custom made, they have metric threads and kapton wire. - RTDs attach directly to warm flange adjacent to pumping ports. - BNL heaters are made in two halves. The heaters temperature is measured indirectly via thermal conduction to the warm flange RTDs. UVIC summary ^^^^^^^^^^^^ - We will use two RTDs per heater plate. - Our RTDs have same calibration as BNL. Ours are also custom orders, Kapton wires eh. US$44.15 each for 120, US$50.70 each for 60. Delivery is 4 to 5 weeks, quotation valid for 30 days (as of June 9). Sketch available in the office (rm203). - Connector type has not been established yet. BNL will figure something out within a couple months, at which time we will probably copy it. - Our two RTDs will be mounted centrally on the heater plate. - We will be using 6 resistors per heater plate with a 2 amp fuse in series with each resistors. All resistors are connected in parallel. Agenda for next week: ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ - Milestones - ultrasonic bath report - T-piece glands from CERN - projected schedule for construction of FT0 - AOB
