Minutes For 4 July 2000 Present: GV, AD, MLenc, PB The plywood for the weld sample crates has arrived. The crate will be made and shipped out ASAP. The 3" x 5" plastic bags for protecting the Micro-D connectors have arrived. No Bellows Assemblies, Pigtails, or Vacuum Cables have arrived. We are still expecting some of these to arrive at any time Phred was repaired and tested on Friday, it had a chip replaced that had an intermittent fault. The pin carrier cooler had shown signs of increased current for its ion pump, A leak check detected a minor leak, this was sealed and current levels are now back to normal. All of the VCR Tee glands have been tested, all of the new glands (the four most recent) now seal and 4 of the 6 of the original glands seal. Most sealed with 1/8th of a turn of the nut. A couple required 1/6th of a turn. Providing there isn't a ding across the sealing face, it looks as if the VCR fittings can be polished until they seal - if required. We are also looking at the possibility that the VCR seals degrade each time they are used and the more they are tightened the more they degrade. Under normal conditions the nut for the seals should not be tightened more then 1/8th of a turn. For the future we are looking at using a neoprene washer for our leak tests involving the VCR glands. The copper gaskets for the VCRs also come with a silver plated version, which might help to reduce damage. We will continue to explore the causes of the problems we are having with the VCR fittings. Feedthrough 0 The welder will be coming tomorrow to weld one set of warm and cold flanges. This involves four pincarries in each flange and two VCR glands in the warm flange.
