Minutes of feedthrough meeting of 23 October, 2000. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Present: GV, AD, PB, Pof, TH, RL, MLenc, MGF, RKK, MLef *) Milestones: - The T51 and T52 pigtail cables from the 11 October batch from Orsay have been tested. - FT01 was removed from the cold test station. Final electrical tests will commence this week. *) While cableing FT02, a vacuum cable was found that had several pairs of opposite channels shorting together. These shorts occur only when the cable is plugged into some (not all) pincarrier slots. We believe that we have identified that the short is occuring in the region between the mini rod housing and center spacer (the piece that lies between the two stripline circuits and pivots on a single pin). By placing a piece of kapton between the center spacer and one stripline circuit before insertion into the pincarrier, the shorts do not occur. The shorts do occur, however, as the kapton is retracted. The cable has been returned to FCI for examination, along with a PCT pincarrier (which is to be returned!) to reproduce the fault. BNL has also been alerted. *) AD and GV will take all remaining funnels and flanges to TRIUMF this week to be cleaned in the ultrasonic bath. After this trip, only the last eight remaining bellows will require cleaning. *) Michel will contact Chris Oram regarding the dead end we have reached in the LV warm cable design. *) PB will arrange for SM to weld together an unused funnel base and upper funnel tube as weld samples for TIS. The welds will also be inspected locally (Vancouver) before being sent to CERN. *) PB and TH will assemble a folder of all past TIS tests, correspondences, etc. *) Tom Muller sent an email statine that Glasseal expects HCC to have a second machine making our parts by mid November. *) Rather than ordering small samples, Mark will order from CERN the whole lot of heater wire and shrink tube once the wire lengths have been finalized. *) The drawing and procurment of the fuse block circuit has been turned over to the UVIC electronics shop. *) Mark will revisit the shipping crate design, perhaps by the end of this week??? *) Arrangments for the dye penetrant tests for FT00 and FT01 should be made. Greg will look after performing the ferrite tests on FT00 and FT01. *) Aboud has notified BNL that the drawings show the pedestal holes to be rotated from their correct positions. The question regarding the apparent RF leaks from the pedestal holes over the bolts in the bolt ring still remains, although Aboud claims that the holes are there for access to the bolt-ring bolts. *) BNL plans to purchase PT100 temperature probes, two pair per feedthrough, at US$44 each. The UVIC temperature probes would be electrically identical, but with a slightly different geometry. BNL apparently prefers 3-wire probes, however Allain Gonidec prefers that 4-wire probes be used due to the long length. This should be understood and sorted out before ordering, as well as further consultations with BNL, Allain Gonidec, and Christian Zeitnitz (slow controls). *) Terry pointed out that we should obtain a temperature probe readout like those to be used at CERN so that we can carry our our own tests. *) Michel confirmed that UVIC will be providing the elastomer O-rings (between the seal ring and cryostat chimney) and the RF seals (between the bolt ring and the cryostat chimney). We should propose the specifics of what we intend to purchase and then seek feedback from those concerned. Aboud should also be consulted regarding the packaging and shipping details for these items. *) GV and AD will be attending a Labview course in Vancouver on 4,5,6 Dec. Agenda for next week: ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ - Milestones - vacuum cable issues - heater / temp probe update - plans for the week - AOB
