Minutes of feedthrough meeting of 29 January, 2001. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Present: Pof, PB, GV, AD, RL, MLenc, ML, RKK, MGF, Jan *) Milestones - 159 (exact number still to be confirmed) Vacuum Cables arrived on 23 January. Only 221 Vacuum Cables still to come. - A new lab assistant (Fiona Holness) has been hired, and will start work at 08:30 on Tuesday 13 Feb. *) The Video conference with TIS et al failed due to technical problems on Monday 29 January, but was rescheduled for Tuesday 30 January at 08:30. Present at CERN were Alberto Desirelli, Pierre Pailler, Stefano Sgobba, and Yann Forestier. Present at UVIC were Terry, Roy, PB, and Pof. In our original weld plan (the plan provided to TIS) the upper funnel tube was to be 1.6 mm thick over its entire length. This design was later modified so that the thickness of the upper tube was increased to 3.4 mm, but reduced to 1.6 mm only at each end where it is welded to the funnel base and cold flange. This design change was implemented so that the `1.6 mm to 3.4 mm' step would act as a mechanical stop to aid in the upper tube to funnel base or cold flange weld placement. TIS had been confused that the 3.4 mm thickness was actually required for the structural integrity, whereas only 1.6 mm is actually required. Once this was explained, Alberto agreed that there is no problem with the weld. Two requests were made as a result of these discussions: - Alberto has requested a revised page 5 part A of the weld plan, such that the upper funnel tube is modified `as built'. PB will provide this to Alberto during the February LARG week. - Pierre requested the dimensional range of radial clearance between the machined upper funnel tube and the funnel base. Roy responded by email that this clearance range is 0.1 mm -> 0.35 mm. *) BNL did not respond to Marks email request for their shipping crate crate design. Mark will send another email to Tom Muller. *) Jan will inventory the ATLAS lab computers to check which computers need upgrades or replacement. *) PB will check on the status of the VCR glands while at the February LARG week. *) Bonnie has checked with Revenue Canada and UVIC Purchasing regarding the license we have which allows us to import items without paying duty, as long as those items are re-exported. According to Revenue Canada, our license has only been invoked once, for an Axon purchase of K$33 in 1998. This is probably (but not certain) the order of 30 production pigtails for one `standard' feedthrough, plus 20 pigtail jumpers. UVIC Purchasing is now looking further into the issue of tracking those items for which `the license' is invoked. Also, Bonnie found that there is no `year end' paperwork to be generated by us; the only paperwork to be filled out will be at the end of the project. *) Pof will request a letter from Christian Zeitnitz acknowledging receipt of the prototype Axon pigtail MD1970/04 that we sent him last year. *) Michel requires cost estimates for all hardware to be purchased to conduct vacuum and electrical tests at CERN. PB will deal with the vacuum test costs, and pof will deal with the electrical test costs. Agenda for next week: ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ - Milestones - TIS video conference - Heater plate testing / manufacture - Shipping crate progress - Pigtail delivery schedule - AOB
