Minutes of feedthrough meeting of 5 March, 2001. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Present: PB, Pof, GV, AD, FH, MLenc, MGF, ML *) Milestones - All 195 pigtails that arrived last week (28 Feb 01) have been tested; all passed. *) PB will check with George Stenning of Purchasing Services that the HCC/Glasseal payment for the `bad' steel gets paid ASAP. *) MGF and Michel are working on a method of early payment to ORSAY for the pigtails to take advantage of the low French Franc. *) PB, Mark, and Pof have postponed their BNL trip to 13 March (returning 16 March) due to the snow storm in NY. *) We had a short discussion on the best time that John Lindner should begin his work term with us, during which he will be expected to spend much of his time at CERN. As it stands now, September 2001 looks like the most likely time, as we should by then have a significant number of feedthroughs available at CERN for both electrical and vacuum testing. *) After numerous proddings, I finally received a reply from FCI regarding the hi-pot tests: > We had a problem with the circuit bending right at the solder joint > transition from the contact tail to the solder pad. This caused a short > that was only found when the assembly was fully seated into the pin > carrier. The fix was to put a strip of Polyimide tape between the two > circuits in line with and covering the solder joints. It was not to pass > hi-pot. Hi-pot for commercial grade circuits is 40VDC and military > circuits 100VDC, FCI is apparently unwilling to admit in writting anything regarding the hi-pot tests, although I had earlier been told on the phone that hi-pot tests are now being done, and I believe that the voltage mentioned was 1000 V. *) Laurent Serin of Orsay sent a email regarding hi-pot tests on the pigtails: > At Orsay we believe (Christophe and myself) that using only > a 500 V test would be safer. As nothing was specified > in the contract with Axon about HV tolerance of these cables, > we can not take the responsability of such a test. > Consequently you should take yourself (as BLN) the responsability > of such a test if you believe this is useful for the FT (especially > as these pigtails are paid by Canada). We will be looking carefully at the experiences BNL has had with the hi-pot tests they perform there before deciding what, if any, hi-pot tests should be performed at UVIC. Agenda for next week: ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ - Milestones - plans for BNL visit - plans for the week - AOB
