Minutes of feedthrough meeting of 3 July, 2001. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Present: PB, Pof, GV, AD, ASD, FH, ML, RKK, MGF *) Milestones - 11/12 boxes of Vacuum cables arrived from FCI on Friday 29 June. The 12th box arrived today (Tuesday 3 July); 232 cables in all, thus completing the FCI order. - The first HEC feedthrough was welded shut last week; this is ft09. Cold tests will be performed this week. The first Special feedthrough has been pigtail cabled, and will be completed once the next set of pincarriers are welded into flanges, sheduled for Thursday 5 July. - 24 more pincarriers (12 of each kind) have been shipped from Glasseal on Friday 29 June. Tom Muller informed me that Glasseal is now producing 24 pincarriers per week. *) Simon from King's Brothers visited the lab to answer some questions about shipping - - We should stick to shipping lots of four at a time, by air freight - We should use foam between the four feedthrough crates (held rigidly together by plywood at each end) and the outer plywood shell. - Rough handling and tip indicators (visible on outside) should be used, along with plenty of "Fragile" labels. - The shippers should be able to pick up our packages with only ~48 hours notice. - We will investigate the possibility of using UVIC insurance. Note the Chris Oram has pointed out since Simon's visit that there is no direct air freight to Geneva. The likely routing would be Vancouver to Frankfurt by air, then Frankfurt to Geneva by truck. *) Aboud would like Victoria to pay for the orbital welder rather than the orbital cutter as originally planned. This should not be a problem, but it must be made clear that Victoria is not responsible for the choice, purchase, or upkeep of the orbital welder to be purchased. *) A few pictures should be taken next time a HEC feedthrough has been vacuum cabled and subjected to the 90 degree rotation, paying specific attention to how the LV vacuum cables behave when rotated. *) Leif Shaver of Arizona has requested a temporary loan of one of our pincarriers for some tests. We have zero glasseal pincarriers that could be loaned out, but we do have four PCT pincarriers that are not currently in use. Also, the pincarrier used in the TIS burst vessel (still at CERN and mounted on a flange) may still be of use. Leif will check with BNL also for the loan (where he'll probably have better luck...). If BNL has none to loan, Margret will make sure that Leif gets one of our PCT pincarriers or the TIS pincarrier. Agenda for next week: (PB to chair) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ - Milestones - Vacuum cable test progress - Plans for the week - Shipping crates for HEC feedthroughs - AOB
