News from CERN! 09 October 2001 ECC is delayed due to problems with the omega seals; now expected at CERN by end of November, but more likely mid December. ECA will probably be delayed by a similar time since manpower will continue to be tied up with ECC, so ECC may not be at CERN until end of May or June. The feedthrough shop looks to be in pretty good shape with ample room for our tests and lots of help from Patrick and Dave Pate to help set things up. Dave Pate is a vacuum expert, so should be very useful to have around. The first BNL barrel feedthrough was installed yesterday with no apparent problems. All four UVIC feedthroughs have been given a brief visual inspection; no apparent damage, but three of the four feedthroughs had no foam installed on the bellows braces. This must be added to the check list. Also, the pincarrier covers should be held with two screws instead of one since one of the covers had pivoted out of place with just the single screw. The eight remaing Standard and Special feedthroughs should be shipped as soon as all documentation and final checks are made. This includes the Special ft with the damaged cable since we have arranged with ORSAY that the repair be done here at CERN. We are still waiting for word from Simon (Kings Brothers) on the best way to package the HEC ft's (1, 2, or 4 to a package). Tom Muller expects that the pincarrier delivery rate to UVIC will increase "soon" to 24 pc's every other week. BNL has also experienced leaks in pincarriers after bending pins. Tom made a strong point in the C&C meeting that the warm cables must be installed by expert hands only. --------------------------------------------------- Paul Poffenberger phone (250) 721 7741 Dept of Physics fax (250) 721 7752 University of Victoria email pof@uvic.ca ---------------------------------------------------
