Minutes of feedthrough meeting of 26 November, 2001. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Present: Pof, AD, ASD, FH, PB, ML, RKK *) Milestones - ft20 was cold tested again (leak checks only). There is a leak of 5 X 10^-10 mbar-l/s on the cold flange (presumably on a pincarrier). This leak was measured at 1/5 X 10^-9 on the previous cold test. There is no measureable leak under ambient conditions. We will propose during LARG week that this feedthrough be used as one of the three Standard spare feedthroughs. - ft21 was built and cold tested last week. It will be sent to CERN this week, together with three others (ft20 will remain at UVIC for now). - The final cold cycles for the 22 Oct batch of pincarriers has been completed. - Week of 19 November report from CERN: 19 Nov: evacuated ft09 funnel. 20 Nov: leak checked ft09 funnel; redo cross talk tests for ft12 slot05b. 21 Nov: leak checked ft11 funnel; evacuated ft16 funnel; cross talk tests for ft09 and ft11 slots 01-04a/b 22 Nov: cross talk tests for ft16 (start). 23 Nov: cross talk tests for ft16 (finish). *) Aaron reported that two or three barrel feedthroughs have been returned to BNL due to electrical failures. Pof emailed Bob Hackenburg for further information on the failure modes; Bob's reply follows: One has been returned -- we haven't yet opened it, but I suspect one of the end-wires in a pigtail at the ATI connector, based on TDR data, and experience with the mode of failure in (dissected) Axon' test cables: the construction is identical with the pigtails' ATI connectors, and they seem to make (some of) them with the end wires a fraction of a mm too short, so contact is completed with a fragile solder bridge. That's speculation, but it fits. *) The two feedthroughs at CERN with damaged pigtails (ft10 and ft12) were to be repaired on Wednesday 28 November (but apparently this didn't happen...). One of the pigtails on a Barrel feedthrough has also been damaged, apparenty while extracting the welding jig. Three damaged pigtails (stripped kapton, but no damage to wire braid) have also just been found on ft15 (a HEC) at CERN. WE MUST TAKE BETTER CARE OF THESE!!! *) A 0.004 inch thick, 20 inch circumference poly bag slipped over the pigtail bundle will be included in all future feedthrough shipments. It will be open at each end, with sufficient length to be folded back and taped over the micro-D end. We will also continue placing small plastic bags over each micro-D connector. *) The qa/qc document is still in the process of being updated, with a goal to release the next version before the Christmas break. *) Items of address at LARG week: - (ML) Is UVIC still required to contribute to the purchase of an orbital welder? Note that BNL's welder has broken down and been returned to California for the second time now - (ML) Query Pierre on what will be required of our group in preparation for the ASSO in Feb 02. - (Pof,ML) What UVIC manpower for assisting Aboud will be required / available. Note that Aaron reported that Pierre has been trying to get Dave Pate to remain at CERN to assist in Endcap feedthrough installation. - (Pof) What documentation needs to be provided for the transfer of feedthrough ownership to CERN. Pof will propose the following to Pierre: 1) Full paper-copy of traveler sheets be turned over to Pierre (these already exist at CERN). 2) Summary sheets for each feedthrough (component serial numbers, comments, etc) be placed on EDMS. 3) Raw data from final electrical tests done at UVIC before shipping (cross talk and resistance) and reception electrial tests done at CERN (cross talk) be available on the web (this is already done). 4) Data available to be merged into ATLAS database when mechanics of merger and choice of data are finalized.
