Feedthrough Meeting 03/06/97 1- Electric Testing Station We now have a Network Analyser from TRIUMF. Manuals have been ordered. Margret is in contact with Bruce White and Don Haywood at UBC. Both are retired gentlemen interested in giving us help. In order to proceed, we need to understand quantitatively what are the requirements on the cables and the related tests needed. [04/06/97 Michel sent a request to Christophe De La Taille -- one of the review committee member -- for information on the cable certification measures that they have made in Orsay. Christophe is an expert on the matter.] 2- Finite Element Analysis Terry reported on his latest FEA efforts, and on his presentation for the BNL review. Highlights of his latests results; - FEA of the weld between the seal ring and the warm flange; - FEA of the funnel; - FEA of the bi-metallic junction and the junction to the cold vessel. Michel to update the note including all of Terry's work. 3- Single Pin Carrier Tester Do be discussed Friday 06/06/97 4- BNL Review The feedthrough review will be held in BNL June 11-12 1997. Terry, Paul and Michel will be there the 10-11-12. The agenda was distributed. Presentations to be prepared: - Short overview on Endcap specific issues (Michel) - FEA analysis (Terry) - Production of feedthroughs (enccap) (Michel) - Project management, etc. (endcap) (Michel) 5- Vacuum Cables - Margret showed one layer prototype from Kapton Jim. Looks great. Questions remain on the cable design. - Gerald Oakham and Ernie Neuheimer have been looking into the production of vacuum cables in Ottawa. They have been in contact with BNL since the bid package that we provided them (from BNL) was not complete; - It was noted that Pierre Imbert in Orsay has also been looking at the manufacture of this cable since quite a while. He will make a presentation on this subject at the review. We all agreed that it could be advantageous if we these cables could be made in Canada. Richard has agreed to follow up on this dossier. 6- UVic Lab Space Do be discussed Friday 06/06/97 7- Endcap Specific Design Issues - High Voltage feedthroughs number of HV lines needed (verified with Jacques Colas): per barrel end: 719 per endcap end: 1278 We are to request two HV feedthroughs per endcap end - Low voltage through signal pins (endcap hadronic) - No lateral forces - 31 cm offset (as for barrel) - Al skirt between warm vessel and bolt ring. 8- Test Cryostat Feedthroughs - Terry has taken care of our contribution to the pin carriers for the test cryostat feedthrouhs. Purchase order and letter of credit (!) sent and received. Waiting for the goods to arrive at BNL before paying anything. - The cold and warm flanges being machined at STC. Rahm and Oakham have agreed that July 1st in BNL was good. - BNL to receive some pin carriers from PCT, as well as (some?) 15 row pin carrier from Ceramaseal, anyday now. - Michel has insured that our contribution of US$50k to the test cryostat feedthroughs has been registered in the ATLAS LARG CORE tables (Bernard Aubert). 9- Test Station - Pig tails should be purchased asap. [04/06/97 Michel has contacted Pierre Imbert with respect to purchasing pigtail for our test station. Imbert replied that there should not be more than two types of pigtails for all the endcap (25 ohm and 50 ohm), procurement to be discussed at the review.] - Availability of pins David Lissauer mentions that we should be able to have one or two PCT pin carriers some time this summer. Do be discussed Friday 06/06/97 10- Management Issued - CORE costing of the feedthrough project - Management Structure - MIG sub-account Michel reported that a lettre from Bob Orr to Alex MacAuley has been delivered to Alex. A 3-nserc account is being open for our MIG here in UVic. - MOU The MOU between ATLAS, TRIUMF and UVic is being written. Futher MIG funds depends on this MOU being signed by all parties. Michel to contact Alex for a meeting Monday 09/06/97 if possible.
