Feedthrough Meeting 13/10/98 present: P. Birney, A. Dowling, M. Fincke-Keeler, T. Hodges, R. Langstaff, M. Lefebvre, P. Poffenberger, M. Rensing, G. Vowles - Status for Lab Space Our new lab, 022, is in good shape. For the initial phase, the electrical tests will take place close to the blackboard, right of the entrance. Michel stressed the need to keep the room in a clean and neat state at all times. It's a good idea to spend a few minutes at the end of each day to put tools where they belong, etc. This will improve safety and quality of work! - Pin Carriers and Refrigerator We have received 10/10 of the PCT pin carriers, and 13/20 of the Glasseal pin carriers. [15/20 as of Oct 24th]. The refrigerator can cool pin carriers below liquid nitrogen temperature in 12h to 24h. Work is under way to control the heating up phase. All pin carriers were leak tested at room temperature: - One PCT pin carrier was found to have a reproducible (diffusion) leak of 6.5 x 10**-9 mbar.l/s, which is reached only after 45min. - One Glasseal pin carriers has a conventional leak at 5.8 x 10**-9 mbar.l/s. We agreed that all pin carriers should undergo 5 to 10 temperature cycles, with a room temperature leak test after each cycle. The position of each pin carriers in the basket should be noted. A symmetric set of PCT and Glasseal pin carriers (noting whether they are 7 or 8 row) should be tested at the same time. Eventually, a few (4?) pin carriers should be put aside for temperature cycling until Xmas. Michel pointed out that we should treat the old BNL pin carriers with care, as they can be used as standards for leak tests. - Model, Assembly Jigs and Procedures The model is complete, with dummy pigtails and dummy vacuum cables, and id in the assembly jig. We agreed to start the manufacture of another assembly jig as soon as possible. Aboud is still investigating the orbital cutter for the endcap cryostat. - Prototype Construction Plan Flanges to be received any time now [received 19/10/98]. Roy to check with BOA for the bellows. [Done: Two of our bellows are complete. The third had a leak that they could not fix. They are awaiting a new flange to weld to a new formed bellows. BOA anticipate shipping all three assemblies by October 23rd.] Roy to check with the funnel order. [Done: the funnel tubes began fabrication this morning and they expect to ship "next week".] Welding: Paul to press with the fabrication of the dummy flanges and pin carriers needed for the welding qualification. - Vacuum Cable Status Ernie finished the strip artwork. Don Makowiecki has released the spring clip design, which means we are now free to have it modified to our needs at will. Ernie has the latest spring clip design. An order of 10000 eyelids was made. For the preproduction, the conductive spacer is nearing the end of design. On the low voltage vacuum cable issues, Margret is in contact with AXON. [6 cables have now been ordered]. - Status of Testing Stations The cold part of the leak testing station needs commissioning. The DC tester now talks to the network. Pof and Margret to investigate further the capacitance measurements. - ATLAS Meetings and Other Important Dates - Sep 14 - Sep 18 : ATLAS week (Overview) - Sep 21 - Sep 26 : LAr week - Sep 26 - Sep 30 : Ringberg Castle HEC Meeting - Nov 12 - Nov 18 : LAr week - Nov 16 - Nov 20 : ATLAS week - Jan 31 (to be confirmed) : Feedthrough Production Readiness Review - Feb 12 - Feb 14 : Western Nuclear and Particle Physics Conference - Feb 14 - Feb 20 : Lake Louise Winter Institute - Feb 22 - Feb 26 : ATLAS week - Jun 07 - Jun 11 : ATLAS week
