Special meeting on welding issues

present:  P. Birney, T. Hodges, R. Langstaff, M. Lefebvre

This special meeting was dedicated to the pressing welding issues.

- Status of the dummies (flange and pin carriers)

4 complete dummies sets (4 warm flanges-like and 16 corresponding
pin carrier-like) are on order (remember they are thinner than the
real thing).  Paul has been in close contact with the local company
that produces them.  Half of the order is expected by end of
Thursday Nov 5th.

- Status of Welder

Paul has been looking into the welder with input from Rowland at
TRIUMF.  A welder has been ordered, and is expected for the third
week of Nov at the latest.  Paul to keep a close look on its
delivery.

- Weld Practice Pieces

The material for the weld practice pieces (to be used before welding
the dummies) is in hand.  Paul will oversee the machining in the
shop.  Should be ready by Thursday noon.

- Action Plan

0) Paul (with Terry's help) to approach the relevant company for
metallographic examination.

1) Paul to pick up at least one dummy set on Thursday.  Paul will
take one dummy set and the weld practice pieces to TRIUMF on Friday.
No temperature treatment on the dummy.  Paul and Rowland to try a
few set of welding parameters, carefully noting them and the dummy's
deflection (if any).  Metallographic examination to be ordered on at
least two straight section places and two corners.

2) The other 3 dummy sets will be used when we receive our welder.
One dummy set to remain untouched; One dummy set to be stress
relieved at 400 degrees C.  Paul says this can be done in house; One
dummy set to be subjected to temperature annealing.  Terry to
contact CERN personnel involved with this sort of treatment (info
from Dieter) during coming LAr week.

- Orders

Bellows were shipped last Friday Oct 30th.
Funnel tube have been received.
Funnel base to be made in the shop.
