Feedthrough Meeting 30/03/99 present: P. Birney, A. Dowling, M. Fincke-Keeler, T. Hodges, M. Lefebvre, G. Vowles - Opening Comments Michel reported on the recent funding approval for the HEC second wheel. - Vacuum Cables Margret to contact Ernie with regards to the vacuum cable status. It was noted that Strataflex had put the same serial number of each cable. This should be corrected for production. Margret to find out when will the cables be in Victoria. Terry pointed out that to pursue the heat leak tests, more vacuum cables were now needed. [Margret has contacted Ernie, 20 vacuum cables expected .......] - Electric Test Setup One scanner board is stuffed and being finalized, another board expected from Orsay. Two fan-out boards and two GPIB interface boards expected from Orsay. Pof and Neil are making progress on the DC switching system and of fake connectors for tests. - Pigtails for Prototypes The order for pigtails for the prototypes (30 signal pigtails and 20 loop cables) has been out for two weeks. Expect delivery in about 8 weeks. - Leak Test Setup The dismountable bellows is now operational. Heat leak tests have been made with insulation on both flanges (1 inch of Styrofoam and 1 layer of super-insulation). An improvement of about 5 is measured compared to the case without insulation. We are not far from being able to operate at 2.8 bar with a heat leak of about that 150 W. Improvements on the insulation will be tested. More vacuum cables are needed for a more realistic test. Margret to look into the vacuum cables that we currently have. This should help while waiting to have tested vacuum cables from the 100 batch. - Pin Carriers Glasseal are looking into two stiffer allows for the pins. But see comments from Terry appended below. More discussions at next video conference. From HODGES@phys.UVic.CA Thu Apr 1 08:15:23 1999 Date: Tue, 16 Mar 1999 0:31:58 -0800 From: HODGES@phys.UVic.CA To: KOTCHER@sun2.BNL.gov Cc: LEFEBVRE@UVic.CA Subject: Pin Carrier pins Hi Jon, I talked to Greg Myers of Glasseal last week to inform him of our pin carrier leak test results. He was pleased,of course, that they did not leak, and went on to say they were going to test two different metals for the pin carrier pins. One was inconel X750 the other a stainless steel AISI 446. I did not make any comment to him, but I have since talked to Dave, because it seems to me that the inconel X750 will be a poor match to the glass, in terms of expansion coefficient (unless they have a new glass in mind) and the AISI 446 is a ferritic steel, which means that it is likely to be brittle at low temperature. He mentioned he was sending some pin samples to Dave to look at, and Dave says he will look into the brittle aspect. All the best, Terry From kotcher@sun2.bnl.gov Thu Apr 1 08:16:26 1999 Date: Mon, 29 Mar 1999 12:01:56 -0500 (EST) From: Jonathan Kotcher To: hodges@uvphys.phys.uvic.ca, lefebvre@uvic.ca, Rahm@bnl.gov, ksexton@bnl.gov Cc: lissauer@sun2.bnl.gov Subject: Pins Greg Meyers called me from Glasseal this morning. His shipment of pins was delayed; they're going out today. Two types: Inconel 750 and 446 alloy. He feels confident in trying the same glass we've been using for each of them in two new test headers, the fabrication of which will take another few days. He'll send them to us for cryo testing, etc. after they're made. We'll let you know how they perform -- -- Jon - Welds Paul has looked into the production of dummies for the weld tests. We agreed that Terry and Michel should meet with TIS during the May LAr week with a prepared proposal for the weld and welder qualification plan at Victoria. - QA/QC Aaron reported on the QA/QC work. Great progress has been achieved with assembly procedures and Quality control plan. This effort is now awaiting more understanding of the electrical test plan. Aaron and Margret to make plans with Michael Rensing to continue the discussion regarding the seting up of the database. It was noted that it should not be a problem to have a plan summary ready for the May LAr week. - PRR follow up A second version of the PRR Recommendation answers, improved by John and Michel has been sent to Pierre Pailler - ATLAS Meetings and Other Important Dates - May 17 - May 21 : LAr week - Jun 06 - Jun 09 : CAP Conference - Jun 07 - Jun 11 : ATLAS week - Jun 07 - Jun 18 : HEC technical run - Jun 13 - Jun 19 : Lisbon CALOR Conference - Jun 23 - Jul 07 : HEC testbeam - Jul 05 - Jul 09 : LAr week - Aug 16 - Sep 07 : HEC testbeam
