I sent the wrong date! Minutes of the meeting of September 13, 1999 Present RK,MR,MF,PP,GV,ML,TH,AD,RL 1. DRAWINGS: Mark - has added more notes on the assembly drawing. - needs info about thermocouples from RL. - needs info about cables from MF. - assembly sequence drawing started. Roy - Decision on size of vacuum gland is supposed to be made by Wed. Sept. 15. (Pierre and Aboud) - Roy has contacted Luc Poggiolli about temperature measurement of the warm flanges but has not heard back. - The welding firm, Specific Mechanics made some important but relatively minor changes to the design of the large diameter part of the funnel. They want it made of thicker material with a step machined in it to locate it at the flange. Drawings are being changed to accommodate this. - The bid package to machine the warm and cold flanges, narrow funnel tube and the cold box flange could be sent out. There are a couple of things holding up this RFQ: 1. The Southern Cross machining company mentioned to Roy that they have had trouble machining remelt SS. So we should send them a sample of the stuff. **** Michel - is there some at CERN we could buy? ******** 2. Wait to see if bellows rings we had made are ok. They are being shipped now so we should hear back from BOA soon. 3. We need to find out from Specific Engineering what documentation they need from the machinist to satisfy the ASME code. 2. TIS stuff and Pin cariers Terry - Pieces of metal are being prepared to be welded and dye penetrant tested. They will be sent to Mainz for LAR testing. - PB is writing the the details of the RFQ to Specific Engineering for the welding. - TIS and Pierre are negotiating - we are sidelined while they fight it ou. - Glassseal damaged the newly machined pin carriers in shipping to NJ to have the pins installed. They will send us 4 pin carriers next week. They will produce a new schedule. We will lose about 6 weeks. 3. Production Plans Aaron - A plan now exists on Microsoft Project that uses 4 people as a base number to make FTs. The present analysis indicates that 8 months will suffice to do 25. This preliminary work is now being carefully scrutinized and will be finalized soon. RK - requested a schedule with milestones. One is being produced. We all agreed to start the production milestones and plan on September 20, 1999. 4. Heat leak (Terry) - Terry reported that PB had finished the heat leak measurements with the Rohrcell. The improvement is dramatic. Terry is writing it up. 5. Pigtail cable harness clamp. Roy - reported that some teflon clamps are being tested in the lab for their strength for holding the pigtails. This is a clamping arrangement Roy has added so that the pigtails will not pull out under their own weight or if tugged. The tests will determine the weight they can hold against slow creep and against sudden tugs. 6. Added after the meeting - The tenders have come in from BERG and STC for the vacuum cables. 7. Agenda for September 20, 1999. 1. Drawings 2. TIS 3. BERG Cables 4. Start of production plan - first milestones.
