Minutes of the UVic Feedthrough meeting Sept.27. 1999 ===================================================== Present: Greg, Pof, Paul B., Mike R., Aaron, Margret, Roy, Terry, Richard. 1) LV test setup: Special connectors have been made for looping current through LV cables in the feedthrough assembly. 4 temperature sensing diodes are almost ready to be installed. The main aim of the LV week will be to find the maximum acceptable current that can be run through the LV cabels without causing excessive thermal heating. A thermal strap for the heating resistor should be ready for a possible cold test towards the end of the low voltage week. 2) Thermal Test writeup Terry has a draft copy of a thermal test writeup. The conclusion of his note is that it is beneficial to install Rohacell insulation in the feedthroughs. 3) 30 production type pigtails Pof reported that: The first 30 pigtails of production type quality (18xT47, 12xT48) have undergone continuity testing. No broken wires, shorts or cross-wiring were found. Typical DC restince values measured were about R=250mohm for the T48 (Z=25ohm) harnesses and about R=550mohm for the T47 (Z=50ohm) harnesses. There is a roughly 100mohm spread in the DC resistance distributions due to the limited precision of the cable tester. The (ATI-)nearest-neighbour cross talk tests have been done on the T47 cables. The x-talk pattern is dominated by the micro-D connecoters: Nearest neighbours in the ATI connector that are ALSO nearest neighbours in the micro-D connector have a base-to-peak xtalk of up to 0.3% (peak-to-peak up to 0.6%). Nearest neighbours in the ATI connector that are NOT nearest neighbours in the micro-D typically have a base-to-peak xtalk of up to 0.12% (peak-to-peak up to 0.25%). It was decided that a full 64x64 cross talk matrix should be measured. The cross due to the micro-D connectors might limit the cross talk test measurements we will have to do on the vacuum cables. 4) Berg cables Margret and Richard have been in contact with a representative from Berg who answered some of our questions. He promised to send us early this week: Test data obtained from vacuum cables More recent drawings in electronic format A flow chart that was missing in their bid package A sample of their connector assembly A strategy of how they are planning to manufacture calibration cables to the required precision. Comments on how they try to avoid stretching the ground clip due to tolerance build-up. Margret will write up a little note for Berg on why it is important to match the DC-resistances of the flex circuits pairs. 5) Quality Plan Pof has created tables for the database. He will meet with Terry and Aaron to discuss the ongoing work. 6) Scheduling Margret is working on a monthly schedule with milestones of what should happen each month. This work is still in progress. Margret will meet with Paul B. and Aaron. Paul Birney produced a list of milestones. Some dates still need to be added, which will likely be done when Aaron, Paul and Margret meet. Pof has worked out a list of tasks for a generic feedthrough production month. He estimates that 3 people can build 2 feedthroughs in 20 working days with a work load of about 4 hours per day and person. Richard pointed out that we need nice pictures and overviews over what we are doing. 7) Pin Carriers 8 pin carriers are supposed to have been shipped from Glasseal on Sept.24 . 8) TIS TIS has accepted our proposal for a burst-test model equipped with 1 Glasseal pin carrier. 9) The purchase order has been signed for Spec. Mech. to do the welding for the TIS and insertion models and the F.T. -1. 10) Margret has been trying to contact Don Makowiecki for some spare micro-D adapter boards but no luck so far, she'll keep trying. 11) Paul Birney will check with Chris Oram whether we can use his Triumf cleaning facilities. 12) The cold funnel base and the lower funnel tube are still being worked on in the UVic shop. 13) Roy informed us that all interface drawings and drawings for production are now on CDD. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Agenda for Oct.4: ----------------- Quality Plan Schedules and Milestones TIS update 64x64 cross talk matrix for pigtails Items scheduled for this week - met or late?
