    This routine is called once for each event and fills histograms that
    are not channel-specific.

    First, set the nA to GeV conversion depending on the particle type (i_part).
    If histogram switch:     histo_switch(4)=1      then fill histogram of corrected tdc distribution.
    If histogram switch:     histo_switch(5)=1      then fill sigma-cut energy histograms.
    If histogram switch:     histo_switch(6)=1      then cluster sums are being dealt with.
    If histogram switch:     histo_switch(2)=1      then fill histograms with pedestal-subtracted
                                                                          maximums for each depth.
    If histogram switch:     histo_switch(1)=1      then  fill histograms that show the tim-dependence
                                                                           of the pedestals. The first time slice content
                                                                           is plotted for every 10th / 100th event
                                                                           in 4 different channels (17,37,62,112)
