HEC1 in ECC
October 2003

Pictures of the Endcap Cryostat C with the first HEC wheel inserted in it, 03 October 2003. Provided by Roy Langstaff, who also provided the following comments:
"Apart from two minor delays, caused by 'Top Key' machining and some misaligned guides, the whole procedure went extremely well. There are no 'permaglide' dramas to report, and no unexplained noises were heard!! During insertion, some comparative left and right measurements were made between the wheel and the cryostat. The two dimensions agreed within 0.5 mm so I anticipate a favourable report from the CERN Survey Group."

A view taken from above the left horizontal centreline, looking past the HEC1 Wheel, into the Cryostat, at the rear face of the EMEC Wheel. The HEC Wheel is about one metre from the opening of the 'cold vessel'.

A view of the HEC Wheel inside the cryostat. The minimum clearance was 22.0 mm between the uppermost Connecting Bar and the cryostat wall.

The 70 tonne wheel at rest inside the Cryostat, and one exhausted worker sleeping on the platform!!!!!

The Insertion Team. Many, many, thanks to Christian, Jacques, Manu, and Juergen.
