Transport barrel cryostat

Pictures of the barrel cryostat leaving building 180, 26-27 October 2004. Provided by Roy Langstaff. The last one was provided by Victor Zhabitskiy.
Roy provided the following comments on October 27:
"Preparations to transport the Barrel Calorimeter from B180 to Point 1 began on Monday (25 October 2004). The plan was to move the Barrel yesterday but there were two things delaying this process. One was the torrential rain but perhaps more important, the floor area at the surface of Point 1 was still occupied by the Toroid Coil which had been moved there last week.
The Toroid Coil began its journey into the abyss last evening. If you go to this website, there are an interesting series of images captured by the web-cam starting with image 041026_204629.jpg. You will see the whole process of the coil being lowered at an angle, and then brought to rest in its horizontal cradle.
This action with the coil cleared the way for the Barrel transport to begin this morning at 8:30. I have attached a series of images. See the descriptions below. Stay tuned to the webcam page to see pictures of the Barrel being lowered into the pit during the coming days!"


This image was made October 26. The Barrel Calorimeter is resting on the 96-wheeled dual trailer and technicians were in the process of removing the outriggers from the steel framework.
The Barrel begins its journey up the slope from the B180 parking area at 8:45, October 27, 2004.
There was a short break in the action to try and prevent the wheels on the right from scuffing on the edge of the curb, and also to make the first hydraulic levelling adjustment to the trailers.

An image to show the relatively tight fit of the trailers between the curbs of the road. Each set of wheels are steerable and have vertical adjustment between themselves and the trailer bed.
This is a good illustration of the level control in action on the slope leading from B180.
