transport of endcap cryostat C
September 2005

Pictures of the endcap cryostat C being moved to point 1 taken on 22 Sep 2005.
The first 8 photos were taken by Roy: "Here is a photo record of the first of our two big moves. This was probably the smoothest of all the transports so far with none of the wheel/sidewalk interactions we've seen in the past. The transition from the B180 parking area to the first slope in the road went without problems, due in all respects to the well-spent money to widen the road and to remove a sharp corner of the sidewalk. The Friderici crew knew this was a valuable and relatively delicate cargo so they were at their peak of concentration. The transport was fast, only 2 hours to the main gates, but smooth."
The next 4 photos were taken by Kai: "The first ATLAS endcap calorimeter made its way from building 180 to the pit today. It was a really nice autumn day. Here are some pictures from the transport and Roy giving an interview".

This image shows a great example of the slope compensation capabilities of the trailer system as it makes its way past the CERN Fire Hall

The convoy has reached Point 1, the 'pusher' truck has been disconnected and the load is now being reversed into the receiving area of the surface building SX-1

This image shows the End Cap on the right resting on the two 40 tonne CMS beams, and in the background one can see the Tile Cradle where the Cryostat will eventually rest, once the two assemblies have been lowered into the ATLAS Cavern, 100 metres below
