The University of Victoria invites applicants for a Research Associate position in Experimental High Energy Physics. The group is currently involved in the ATLAS experiment at CERN. The position has a term of two years with a possible one year extension and is available immediately.
The ATLAS group at the University of Victoria is actively involved in liquid argon calorimetry, in close collaboration with the ATLAS group at TRIUMF, Vancouver. The group is participating in the construction of the ATLAS hadronic endcap calorimeter and related cryogenics components, and is responsible for the associated beam test data analysis software. Beam tests of combined endcap and forward ATLAS liquid argon calorimetry are scheduled for 2002 and 2003. The group is currently leading the related software development within the object oriented ATLAS software framework, as well as being actively involved in liquid argon reconstruction software and in computing for ATLAS. The candidate will be expected to participate in these activities.
Candidates should have a recent Ph.D. in particle physics and experience with UNIX operating systems. Familiarity with the C++ programming language would be an asset.
Interested candidates should send a curriculum vitae and arrange for two letters of recommendation to be sent to:
