This is the second announcement for the 2013 STScI Calibration Workshop.  Registration is now open
via the website. Registration is $47 for all attendees.  Please note that the registration
deadline has been moved sooner to comply with new guidelines.  Registration is now due by March 8,
2013. The new guidelines also require that your registration be paid in-full by the deadline;
there will not be an opportunity to register after this deadline.

In addition to the registration, you will have the option to purchase tickets for our Tapas Feast
on Tuesday night.  Instead of the traditional sit-down dinner, we decided to spice things up with
Tapas prepared by our very own Café Azafrán.  Tickets are $52 each, and there will be a beer and
wine cash bar.

We are also soliciting contributed posters for the workshop.  You may submit an abstract at the
time of registration, or later at your convenience.  If you wish to present a poster, you must
register first. The deadline for abstract submission is March 15, 2013.

Finally, STScI has reserved a block of rooms at the Doubletree Inn at the Colonnade, which is a
hotel within walking distance of the Institute. The special conference rate is $145.00. You can
reserve your room online http://www.stsci.edu/institute/conference/cal13/hotels or call the
Colonnade directly at 410-554-7569. Let your reservationist know that you are attending the 2013
STScI Calibration Workshop.  Be sure to reserve your room before February 28, 2013 to get these
rates.

An Additional Opportunity After the Main Workshop

STScI will host a free mini-workshop for AstroDrizzle on Friday April 12th from 9am-12pm. While
not formally part of the Calibration Workshop, all attendees of the Calibration Workshop are
invited to attend.

As of June 2012, AstroDrizzle has replaced MultiDrizzle as the supported tool for aligning and
combining HST images.  This three hour, hands-on mini-workshop will include drizzling tutorials
and personalized assistance with your specific datasets.

If you would like to attend this mini-workshop, please send an email to cal2013@stsci.edu, or to
the local organizer, Jennifer Mack mack@stsci.edu

The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) has been operating with its final complement of instruments since
2009.  In addition, three of the instruments to be flown onboard the James Webb Space Telescope
(JWST) have just been delivered, and the final two will be completed soon.  It is therefore a
perfect time to hold a workshop emphasizing calibrations that are required to maximally exploit
the capabilities of both observatories.  This is also an opportunity to assess any additional
calibrations needed to ensure that the current HST and future JWST archives are robust, and as
scientifically valuable as possible.

In addition to these observatory specific themes, the workshop will address topics that apply
broadly to astronomical calibration in general, and to more focused cross-observatory calibration.

The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) will host the 2013 STScI Calibration Workshop on
April 8-11, 2013.  Our goal is to foster the sharing of information and techniques between
observers, instrument support teams, and instrument developers.  Two and one-half days of the
meeting will be dedicated to plenary presentations from invited and contributing speakers. One and
one-half days will be dedicated to specialized breakout sessions.  Contributed posters will be
displayed throughout the workshop.  The schedule includes ample time for discussion after each
plenary presentation and during breakout sessions, as well as many opportunities for exchange
during lunch and coffee breaks.

For more information on the Workshop, please check the website:

http://www.stsci.edu/institute/conference/cal13

A third announcement containing the list of plenary session speakers, and breakout sessions will
be issued in February 2013.

Please feel free to contact us with an email message to cal2013@stsci.edu.
