Hi,
Here are the minutes of our meeting on Thursday --- please just reply with (or let me know) any corrections -- thanks!:
Phoning in: just Yorke Brown (Dartmouth & Harvard), Karun Thanjavur (UVic), and me this week
Yorke gave us the status on flights: a couple of fasteners that were damaged in the parafoil test flights are currently being repaired by Bob at Dartmouth, and when that's done, the weather is clear, and Yorke returns from his short vacation in Washington State (he leaves today, back this coming weekend), we should be able to do our first NH science flights. Yorke, together with Todd, Bob, and Karun, did some parafoil drop tests, from which much was learned (and per Yorke's request, I just purchased a new parafoil from Seabreeze Parachutes: http://www.seabreezeparachutes.com/120x39parachute.html , which should fly better than the present ones -- although, as mentioned, we can always back out to the regular parachute when the steered parafoil is not fully debugged).
For the goniometric and pre- and post-flight calibrations, Karun has begun to take data with the goniometric setup downstairs (and he'll be able to post some data from that soon), and he has built an interface mount and photodiode holder for the pre- and post-flight calibration check device. Also the primary goniometric calibration setup at NRC should be ready for some first tests in August.
Cordell's wife just had a baby (congratulations Cordell!) and will be back at our telecons soon -- he is working on finding a student to help him out with nanosat design next steps (he'll have occasional questions for us regarding those over the next weeks).
On computing/website, things appear stable -- please just either post a note or let me know if any fixes or changes are needed.
On upcoming grant applications, I'm working on the text for the scaled-down DND-NSERC grant with World Star Tech, and hopefully I'll have that done this coming week. There also will be a CFI (Canada Foundation for Innovation) competition later this year, and I've contacted our Research Services office to let them know that we're very interested in that. Yorke is also talking with the JPL folks again regarding NASA SURP grant opportunities.
That's all I remember, please send things I forgot. Next telecon in 2 weeks, on Thurs., Jul. 25, at the regular 11:00 Eastern time.
cheers, thanks all! justin
