Hi,
Here are the minutes of our meeting on Thursday --- please just reply with (or let me know) any corrections -- thanks!:
Phoning in: Yorke Brown (Dartmouth & Harvard), Cordell Grant (Toronto SFL), Arnold Gaertner (NRC-INMS)
Yorke gave us the status on flights: just a couple remaining gondola parts to fabricate before we can do a daytime flight with the optical payload (and following that, a night observation flight). We will use the conical parachute until the parafoil is fully debugged. *If* everything goes well, *and* the weather is cooperative, then Yorke and Todd should be able to do that daytime flight this upcoming week (and hopefully the night flight when I am there from Aug. 2 - 15).
Karun finally has received a copy of Modtran from the supplier and is beginning to integrate that with Pan-STARRS simulation, as well as making some custom ALTAIR simulation code to be integrated as well. For the goniometric and pre- and post-flight calibrations, Karun will return to that task once he returns from observing at Keck. Arnold is presently using the primary goniometric calibration setup at NRC to calibrate a set of standard LEDs, and should be ready for some first tests with the source and integrating sphere in late August or this fall.
Cordell has a new student, Houman Hakima, to help out with nanosat design next steps. Houman will join our telecons, starting with the next one. The next steps include fleshing out the solid model of the payload and support systems.
On computing/website, things appear stable -- please just either post a note or let me know if any fixes or changes are needed.
On upcoming grant applications, I'm working on the text for the scaled-down DND-NSERC grant with World Star Tech -- that is this weekend's task for me. There also will be a CFI (Canada Foundation for Innovation) competition later this year, and I've contacted our Research Services office to let them know that we're very interested in that. Yorke is also talking with the JPL folks again regarding NASA SURP grant opportunities.
That's all I remember, please send things I forgot. Next telecon in 2 weeks, on Thurs., Aug. 8, at the regular 11:00 Eastern time.
cheers, thanks all! justin
