Hi,
Happy holidays everyone, and here are minutes of our meeting on Thursday — please just reply with, or let me know, any corrections — thanks!:
Phoning in: Cordell Grant and Houman Hakima (UTIAS-SFL), Yorke Brown (Dartmouth), Karun Thanjavur (UVic)
We had a fairly short meeting due to the fact that a CSA grant proposal was due the following day and we were trying to make the FedEx deadline (fortunately it arrived safely!). Over a foot of snow in New Hampshire has put a crimp on flights recently — that is starting to melt now, so there is a hope that there might be a chance for us to get off a short flight between Christmas and New Year’s (e.g. perhaps the daytime flight to check parafoil operation). We’d also like to do another nighttime data-taking flight as soon as the opportunity arises as well.
Laboratory calibration-wise, Arnold now has the spheres (both the 2” duplicate of our custom aluminum sphere presently in NH, as well as our old 6” Labsphere off-the-shelf sphere), a number of our laser diode module sources, and the quad fiber interface, at NRC in Ottawa, and will be able to do measurements of them either at the end of this month or in early January. Karun is working on MODTRAN results (and interfacing with Stubbs on what he’s produced so far on that) and on the pre- and post-flight calibration box, and will compare his goniometric results with Arnold’s when the latter are ready.
At UTIAS-SFL, Houman and Cordell are continuing to work on the solid modelling for the nanosat bus, and will soon know if the volume of the multicolour laser module needs to be reduced still further beyond the current design. Houman also had a number of good questions on telemetry etc. which I think are now answered.
On computing/website, things appear stable -- please just either post a note or let me know if any fixes or changes are needed.
Regarding grant applications, the new CSA application that was due on Friday is now fortunately out to CSA. Next steps are to finish up the DND-NSERC application, and then to deal with a possible CFI application in January. Also, Chris and Yorke have submitted a new NFS proposal (and should hear the results in the spring), and Yorke is also talking with the JPL folks again regarding upcoming NASA grant opportunities.
That's all I remember, please send things I forgot. Everyone have excellent holidays, and let’s have our next telecon bright and early in the new year, in two weeks, on Thursday, Jan. 2, at 2:30 pm Eastern time.
cheers, thanks all! justin
