Hi,
Here are minutes of our meeting on Thursday -- please just reply with, or let me know, any corrections -- thanks!:
Phoning in: Karun Thanjavur (UVic), Cordell Grant and Houman Hakima (UTIAS-SFL), Yorke Brown (Dartmouth), Susana Deustua (STScI)
Flights are still on hold because of weather and classes, but we're all looking forward to them resuming next month when Yorke's classes finish for the term. Yorke's three research-term undergraduates are working on finishing the testing of the new onboard emergency locator beacon, as well becoming more familiar with the project and updating the documentation for flight procedures, for our upcoming field campaigns this spring. I'm currently driving over to Bellingham WA to send Yorke the new CeramOptec fiber bundle -- so that should arrive in NH late this coming week. When weather and classes permit, the plan is still to do another nighttime data-taking flight, as well as a short daytime flight to check parafoil operation.
Laboratory calibration-wise: Karun has been making progress on atmospheric modelling using MODTRAN together with calibration star imaging data from Gemini. Arnold is still working on getting goniometric data on the spheres and sources -- he's waiting for another detector part to arrive -- but should get a chance to complete that soon.
At UTIAS-SFL, Houman and Cordell are working on a design modification to the new integrating spheres -- they have to be modified slightly in order to accommodate a large Hamamatsu S2281 photodiode -- and they are continuing to work on the solid modelling for the nanosat bus, and on the optical path and modelling from the new laser module design through the integrating sphere.
On computing/website, things appear stable -- please just either post a note or let me know if any fixes or changes are needed.
Regarding grant applications, we are still interfacing with DND contacts regarding the present draft of the DND-NSERC grant. CSA is reviewing the FAST application from December (we should hear back on that at around the beginning of April). Chris and Yorke should most likely be hearing back on the results of their NFS proposal very soon. And Susana is starting to work with a Johns Hopkins engineering professor regarding student balloon flights and a grant application this coming month -- and we'll be interfacing with her on that.
That's all I remember, please send things that I forgot. Next telecon in two weeks, on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 2:30 pm Eastern time.
cheers, thanks all! justin
