COL du MARCHAIRUZ

Col du Marchairuz [311 Kb]

I had driven over the Col du Marchairuz in the Swiss Jura a
couple of times while on my way to Lac de Jou and Chasseral and had thought
it was an area that deserved further exploration. I did exactly that on
a February day in 2006 when I returned with snowshoes. The weather
was mostly overcast and the walk I did was short, only a few kilometres,
but the snow conditions were excellent and it was nice to get out
for some fresh air and exercise. I walked up to a 1602.5 metre
knoll a few hundred meters northeast of Grand Cunay where I had
lunch while enjoying the views which extended over all of Lake Geneva
with the Alps lying beyond. At times, even Jet d'Eau at Geneva was visible.
