Heater tests
June 2002

A signal feedthrough heater ensures that the ambient flange temperature remains above dew point. It is composed of six 75 ohms power resistors in parallel, for an effective heater resistance of 12.5 ohms, and two resistive temperature sensors (RTD's) mounted on an aluminium frame. Each power resistor has a 2A fuse to protect against shorts to ground. Before being shipped to CERN, the heaters undergo a series of tests in Victoria. A purpose-built tester is used to test heater power shorts to frame, RTD shorts to frame, possible cross wiring between RTD's, resistance of power resistors, RTD's resistance at ambient temperature and RTD's resistance after five minutes at 45.5 W power dissipation.
