Graduate Studies in Particle Physics

We consider graduate education to be a top priority. Each of our students has the opportunity to work along with the top particle physics researchers in the world at forefront laboratories.

Please see the graduate web pages for experimental particle physics and accelerator physics for full details of our graduate program opportunities and course structure.

Four of our Ph.D. students have won the Governor General's gold medal for the best Ph.D. thesis at UVic over the last 11 years. The latest was Brigitte Vachon, who obtained the medal in 2004. Congratulations Brigitte!

Our recent graduates (1996-2008) have taken up the following positions:

  • Dr. Manuella G. Vincter (graduated in 1996), faculty at Carleton University
  • Dr. Steven Robertson (graduated in 1999), adjunct faculty at McGill University and Research Scientist with the Institute of Particle Physics
  • Dr. Ian Lawson (graduated in 2000), Research Scientist at SNOLAB
  • Dr. Dugan O'Neil (graduated in 2000), faculty at Simon Fraser University
