HURRICANE HILL

Along the Hurricane Hill Trail [286 Kb]

The trailhead for Hurricane Hill is at the end of the road to Hurricane Ridge, about two kilometres beyond the visitor centre. The trail is short and easy, gaining about 200 metres over 2.4 kilometres, and paved the entire way. The views from the summit extend in all directions. Many of the areas I've hiked before are easily seen from Hurricane Hill, including Appelton Pass, the Elwha River Valley, and also Mount Carrie which I climbed during the Crisler Traverse. The summit of Mount Olympus is also visible, but most of it's massif is obscured by Mount Carrie. To the north are Port Angeles, Strait of Juan de Fuca, and Victoria. We've done this walk several times, including once on showshoes the day after hiking out from a mid winter backpack trip to High Divide. Some of the pictures shown here are from a trip on September 28, 2006. We returned four months later on January 13 and skied the summer road from the visitor centre to the Hurricane Hill trailhead.
