Le Reculet [93 Kb]
|
Of all the hikes I've done in Europe, Le Reculet is the one I've
done most often due to it's close proximity to CERN.
The usual starting point for the hike is Le Tiocan at 860 metres.
If the road is closed during winter, however, it may be necessary to start
from Thoiry at 600 metres.
Le Reculet and nearby Crêt de la Neige
challenge each other
for the honours of being the highest peak in the Jura.
Most topographical maps put Crêt de la Neige a few centimeters
above Le Reculet, however the most recent Swiss topos
put Le Reculet at
1719 metres, 1.4 metre above Crêt de la Neige.
I've hiked up Le Reculet in all seasons, including winter
hikes on slowshoes.
During the summer months crocuses and cows are common sights;
chamois can be seen on the slopes at all times of the year.
In clear weather, the views from the open summit are excellant.
The lake and plain of Geneva are spread out below with the
high Alps forming a spectacular backdrop.
