MÜRREN
We visited Mürren on a clear spring day, 27 April 2003.
Located across Lauterbrunnental from
Kleine Scheidegg,
Mürren commands a unique side-on view of Eiger's famous sheer
north face. Mönch and Jungfrau are alongside. Mürren is a ski
resort in the winter, and a tourist resort in summer. Being between
seasons, it was nearly empty when we visited.

After parking our car near Stechelberg and purchasing our tickets,
we boarded the cable lift to take us from the 862 meter valley bottom up
the sheer cliffs to Gimmelwald, a tiny hamlet about 1.5 kilometers
south of Mürren. Since nothing was open in Gimmelwald, we walked
up the road to Mürren for lunch.
As usual, we ordered rösti, and as often the case, we convinced
the waitress to have it prepared with a combination of ingredients
not offered on the menu. A short while later while enjoying our meals,
a family of Brits came in and sat down, then pointed to our rösti
when asked by the waitress for their order. Perhaps it's now on the
menu.
We strolled up the hillside above Mürren after lunch for some
exercise and more views, getting as far as a small knoll above the
Allmendhubel ski lift station at 1907 meters.
After soaking in the view of the famous trio Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau,
we strolled back down to Gimmelwald and boarded the lift to transport us
back down to the valley bottom and our car.
