SPRAY PARK

Mount Rainier [412 Kb]

Spray park is a large meadow on the north side of Mount Rainier,
reached most easily along a 6.5 km section of the Wonderland Trail
from the Mowich Lake trailhead. The elevation gain is modest,
climbing from 1500 metres at the lake to 1900 metres at Spray Park.
Most of the hike is through forest.
Along the way is Spray Falls, a short side trip from the main trail.
The vast meadows and the closeup views of Mount Rainier are, of
course, the main highlights of this trip.
When we reached Spray Park during a hike in 1973, we sought refuge
from the mosquitoes in the middle of a lingering snow field before
settling in to prepare a hot lunch. On another hike with the kids,
Maya complained bitterly that the hike was too long and tiring. This
all ended when we reached Spray Park and I said I would be scrambling
up to the col separating Hessong Rock and Mount Pleasant for a better
view. Maya insisted on going up with me, and I could barely keep
up with her.
