YOHO PASS
Yoho Pass is located in Yoho National Park, and can be accessed either from
Emerald Lake to the southwest or from Takakkaw Falls to the northeast.
We did the hike in August 1999 from the Emerald Lake trailhead,
elevation 1311 meters.
The area around the Emerald lake parking area is crowded with
tourists, with several resort cabins crowding the lake shore at
the west end of the lake. The crowds diminish rapidly however once
on the trail.

Emerald Lake [137 Kb]

We took southern route around Emerald Lake, stopping at a large rock by the
lake shore for a lunch break. The trail veers northward following the
lake shore and continues to
an expansive meadow at the far end of the lake before switch-backing up
to Yoho Pass, elevation 1840 meters. There are fine views
from the trail back down to Emerald lake, and also to Michael Peak with its
cascading waterfall. From the pass we continued on the short distance to
Yoho Lake for a second lunch break. The following day we returned to
the same area to do the
Iceline
trail from the Takakkaw Falls trailhead.
